The Threat to Your Food Freedoms

2011 July 21

If you are interested in protecting your right to eat what you wish then we would ask you to start researching the fantastic work of groups like  The Alliance for Natural HealthGaia Health or Naturalnews and show your support today by signing the petition below.

Largely unknown amongst the general public, in late April of this year ALL traditional vitamins and herbal supplements that have been used and relied upon for milennia were outlawed across Europe in the pretence of protecting you from harm. Unbelievable I know, but under the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive once the supplies of the vast majority of natural herbs and vitamin supplements are gone from the shelves of your local health store, they will not return. The only varieties available will be synthetic, nutritionally-depleted alternatives  which have been licensed because the big pharma companies behind them are the only ones with the finances to meet the new requirements of the scheme and have their products  registered.

Millions of people all over the world have relied on these products to maintain their health for thousands of years yet now we are told that they should be treated like drugs and, as drugs, they have to be licensed and registered or removed from sale.  Now successfuly introduced in the UK and wider Europe, the model is to be taken to other parts of the world, including the US.

But the buck does not stop here. Since the 1960′s under the shadowy agenda of Codex Alimentarius (latin for food code),a system of guidelines, standards and recommendations that guides the direction of the global food supply has been pursued. It aims to tell us what is safe, but in the process often uses criteria that are manipulated to support the interests of the world’s largest corporations. This is a subject that I will revisit in a later Blogicalcomment, but for now I am hoping to spark interest among those who have not heard of these alarming issues. Today I wanted to bring your attention to a petition that is currently being collated by the excellent team at Gaia Health. The rest of the text in this piece is taken verbatim from their latest petition appeal. I very much hope you will feel compelled to sign today and then embark on your own reserach into the threat to your food freedoms.

We’re losing the right to manage our own health. Even the right to choose our food is being stolen. We can stop it, but only by ending the basis on which it’s being done—not by addressing each action.

A stunning theft of our rights is happening now—right under our collective noses. We’re losing the right to manage our personal health as we see fit. It’s a right so basic that no one ever thought to list it among the rights of free speech and assembly. Who could ever have imagined that something so basic might come into question?

That, though, is exactly what is happening. Some of us try to do battle, but we’ve been focusing on losses as they occur. We combat genetically modified foods, loss of access to vitamins and herbs, and much more. The war is being fought on so many different fronts that we’re all suffering battle fatigue. We win an occasional bout, but lose most, which adds to our frustration.

Can this war on our personal rights be won? Are our children destined to have no choice about what they eat or how to treat illness?

I believe it can – but we need to take the battle to the next level. For a further discussion, please read The Theft of Health Rights: Can It Be Stopped?

We need to address the methods by which these thefts of our health rights are being taken. To do this, a new petition has just been started to stop the redefinition of foods as drugs. There are two essentially identical petitions, one for the US and one for the EU:

US Declaration of Health Rights: Foods Are Not Drugs and

EU Declaration of Health Rights: Foods Are Not Drugs

The text reads:

The people’s ability to manage their own health as they choose is being undermined by a proliferation of claims that foods are drugs. These declarations, based both on claims of health effects and substances that have been isolated from foods and also used as pharmaceutical drugs, have the potential of bringing every aspect of our lives under control.

This is a dangerous path, threatening every citizen’s access to foods of their choice and self-determination in health management. This redefinition of terms supports draconian controls over the people’s food supply and health management.

We call on our representatives in the House of Representatives and the Senate to stop this dangerous pattern of limiting access to the foods, including herbs, vitamins, and minerals that are ingested as nutrients. Please assure that the following statement, or its equivalent, is enacted into law:

“No substance that has traditionally been considered a food or source of nutrition may be designated or redefined as a drug. No natural substance derived from foods may be designated as a drug. No newly discovered natural plant or animal that people find palatable as food or nutrition may be designated as a drug. No food may be controlled as a drug. All existing redefinitions of foods as drugs must be removed and any controls placed on them as a result of that redefinition must be reversed.”

Just signed up! This is the first I’d heard of any of this. Amazing seeing as how important it seems. Where can I get more information about this Codex thing? Do you imagine it has such a complicated name because its likely to put people off learning about it?

Hello Becky, thanks a lot for your comment.

The Alliance for Natural Health website is a good one to start with.

For a more alarming overview of the implications of this ‘food standard’ and how it ties in with GM foods and a clamp down on natural farming, the guy that really opened my eyes is a UK based researcher called Ian Crane.

I would recommend watching his lecture on Codex Alimentarius which can be viewed for free on Youtube. Another good Crane talk, but this time on the nightmare situation facing the global financial markets, is “Surviving the Final Meltdown” you can also find this on Youtube.

Thanks and please let me know what you think of his work.

And yes, the name does seem unecessarily long winded and hard to understand doesn’t it? Why not just call it the Global Food Code? Maybe because people would actually know what it is then and would spend the time learning about it.

I’m shocked that this could happen without the majority of the public understanding the significance of what is changing. I’ve not read about this in the mainstream papers and feel by the time people do realise what has happened, it will be too late.

    Hi Karen,

Very few people seem to know about the banning of herbs and supplements and fewer people seem to understand that there is a larger agenda at work here, one which will sees the global elite maximising their control of global food production. A plan that they have been working towards for over 40 years.

Thanks very much for your comment, how is Jake? :-)
